HISTORY

The history of the Northland Branch of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand began in August 1962 when a small group of people gathered at the Ambulance Hall in Alexander Street, Whangarei.  Following advice from the Auckland Branch, the Northland Branch was founded on 28th October 1962.
Clubrooms

In 1974, thanks to Vern Fairbrother, the clubrooms were started and the first branch meeting was held 8 months later.  The clubrooms were officially opened by National President at the time, Lionel Priest.

The clubrooms continue to provide a central point for the members with open days coinciding with the Northland Regional Museum live days.

Sub-Branches

Wellsford and Far North were sub branches initially with Wellsford forming its own branch in 1980 and the Far North in 1991.

Dargaville continues to be an active group starting in 1982.  Mid week runs proving an opportunity for members to head off for afternoon tea and a natter.

Restorations

Over the years the branch has restored several vehicles and some have been donated.  Local members, Paddy & Eleanor Holt donated the remains of the Wilkinson Bus Company's 1909 Lacre bus. Eighteen months later, under the guidance of Tracy McKenzie and a large team of helpers, it was up and running.

Mrs Arona donated the Ford Model T and Ford V8 Truck in January 1974.  A Ford Austin 7 was bequeathed by Norm McDonald in March 1977.

Jim and Merle Montgomery presented their 1912 SCAR to the branch in June 2011.
